Howdy,
Ok, we’ve gotten a little dark around these parts lately.
Here’s something a tad bit more uplifting from one of the best writers in the game: Jonathan V. Last
An update about one of my interpreters.
Here’s the text of the work that relates to me.
I really am trying to give you more good news and today I’ve got something wonderful. Last year lot of you donated money to help Will Selber get one of his interpreters, a man named Abdullah, out of Afghanistan. When we put the call out in this newsletter your response was overwhelming.
Today, after months of Abdullah and his family hiding from the Taliban while trying to get out, Will has an update for us:
Abdullah and his family are in the home stretch before they reach the United States. This past month, Abdullah completed his Special Immigrant Visa interview at an American embassy, one of the final steps in a very long and painful process. The best news is that now that he’s so close to the end of the process, he will be housed in U.S. government-sponsored quarters. He will make it, which couldn't have happened without the Bulwark community.
The money you provided ensured my team could feed and house Abdullah and his family underground with minimal exposure. Moreover, we have enough money to provide Abdullah and his family a safety net to operate under during their first year in the United States. In short, Bulwark readers helped save four lives and ensured we did not break our country's promise to this man, who put his family’s lives on the line to protect America.
Will Selber is an extraordinary man. I’m grateful for all the work he did here. I’m also excited for Abdullah and his family to get here and become Americans. Truly, Afghanistan is sending us their best.
And I am incredibly grateful—and humbled—by the generosity of all of you. Thank you, my friends. Together you saved this family’s lives.
There are a lot of people who read this here website who helped make this possible.
So thank you.
Fight for what’s right. You’ll never regret it.
Until next time. .
Tears this time for a totally different reason - tears of joy. Thanks as always. Grateful for the lives of the Abdullah family.
So happy for them and you. Makes me smile. You've done your very best for the very best.
