On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave souls who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom. Today, I write to honor one such man whose courage, leadership, and service embody the spirit of this solemn day—Colonel Abdul Karim Rahimi, a pilot, warrior, and patriot of Afghanistan.
Colonel Rahimi was more than a commander; he symbolized dedication during a time of relentless uncertainty. As the head of one of Afghanistan’s elite Special Mission Wing battalions, he stood shoulder to shoulder with U.S. and NATO partners in some of the most complex and dangerous operations in modern warfare. He flew missions in darkness, led Afghan crews through perilous skies, and relentlessly targeted the enemies of peace—his service was not just for a nation but for a cause shared by all who value liberty.
In every meeting room and on every flight line, Colonel Rahimi carried himself with quiet confidence and a deep sense of duty. He understood that service was not measured in years or rank, but in the lives protected and the values upheld. To those who served with him, he became a brother. To those who watched him lead, he was a beacon of what Afghan leadership could be—principled, capable, and fearless.

Though Colonel Rahimi’s journey ended in sacrifice, his legacy lives on in every Afghan pilot who climbs into a cockpit and every American who remembers that freedom’s defense has no borders. His name now joins the honored roll of those who gave everything for something greater than themselves.
This Memorial Day, let us remember Colonel Rahimi not just as an Afghan hero but as a partner in the long and difficult pursuit of peace. Let us honor him with our remembrance, ensuring that his story and the bond he helped forge are never forgotten.
I have worked with him for over a decade, and witnessed his unwavering courage, leadership, and dedication to saving lives. He was not only a warrior and a patriot but also a true friend whose loss is felt profoundly by his family, his country, and all who knew him. His legacy as a powerful leader and resilient soldier will remain inspirational and his sacrifice will be remembered.
Thank you for sharing and remembering our Heroes
Thank you Will for remembering all your Brothers and Sisters in Combat and Out this Memorial Day!! Sorry I have been such a stranger. Mom is in the hospital with a broken femur and I am preparing for knee surgery too. So it's been a little chaotic to say the least. 😆
I salute and thank ALL the Veterans today. Especially my favorite Grumpy Combat Veteran!! ☺️🇺🇸❤️
