A Grumpy Combat Veteran Tells His Afghan Brothers and Sisters Happy Ramadan

Howdy,

Phew, I’m tired. Holy shit. I just slept for like 15 hours. LOL. Over the last week, I drove to Nashville from Texas, attended an end veteran suicide concert we sponsored, and a political conference we hosted in DC that was subsequently nearly ruined by a domestic terrorist.

Despite little Enique’s best efforts, he didn’t ruin anything for me. During my week-long trip, I saw so many of my Afghan allies. Seeing them thrive and succeed fills me with confidence that I can overcome adversity. My Afghan brothers and sisters, some of whom are green cardholders, still love this country despite it betraying me and them.

I’m going to try to be more upbeat. I will hit Trump, Vance, and everyone on the Daily Rant or Fire for Effect. That’s where I get political. If you want me to get political on Shoulder to Shoulder, Voices of the Resistance (other than on terrorism), or any of our other incredible products, then you’re going to be sadly disappointed.

On 1 February, GCV turned 1 year old. And I turn 47 this month, too! In celebration, some friends of mine are going to do the Bataan Memorial Death March. We will be live-streaming it on Substack. Some of our teammates will be on active duty, and some will be grumpy combat veterans. Hell, we might even have some Afghans thrown in.

Now, here comes the bad news. We’re raising subscription rates! I know, I know. What can I say? I have a lot of Afghan mouths to feed. Behind the GCV engine are about 5-10 Afghan refugees, and times are tough for them. With the refugee services firing thousands of Afghan legal residents, they can’t just do it for the cause anymore. Thus, subscription rates are now $50, but I have lowered founding member rates from $500 to $350. If you can’t afford this, email us at gcv.friends@gmail.com, and we will work something out.

Last night, I tweeted, “Eid Mubarak.” Bakshanna gwoarrom. I had just come home from a long drive.

To all my Afghan brothers and sisters, Ramadan Mubarak. May your fast remind you of G*d’s love and of the sacrifices necessary to obtain that love.
