Commander Mohammad Qayum Khan: Martyred in Front of His Family
Another Message from Hamid
KABUL—April 8, 2025
In one of the most heartbreaking and brutal incidents in recent memory, former Afghan military commander Mohammad Qayum Khan was assassinated in broad daylight on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in the Ahmad Shah Baba Mina area of Kabul.
CCTV footage reveals the harrowing scene: Commander Qayum Khan was walking near his home with his wife and two young children when an armed assailant approached and opened fire. In a cowardly act of terror, the attacker shot Commander Qayum Khan in front of his wife and children and then fled the scene.
(GCV Note: Warning violent footage below)
Commander Qayum Khan was a respected and courageous former officer who had dedicated years of his life to defending Afghanistan and ensuring the safety of its citizens. He survived the battlefield but fell in a moment of peace, holding his child’s hand under the afternoon sun in his own neighborhood.
This was not just an attack on one man; it was an assault on the very fabric of humanity, a symbol of the collapse of public security, and a reflection of the fear and lawlessness that grips the nation today.
To those who claim Afghanistan has become “safe” and to those who have turned their backs on their Afghan allies, let this serve as a painful reminder: We continue to witness such horrific scenes, time and again. Former Afghan soldiers and allies, heroes who stood shoulder to shoulder with international forces, are being hunted and executed in front of their families.
Yet the world remains silent.
There can be no justification for such cruelty. The blood of Commander Qayum Khan, shed so mercilessly in front of his innocent children, will not be forgotten. This pain is not only the sorrow of a grieving family but is the anguish of an entire nation.
At a time when fathers are torn from their children’s arms by bullets of hate, only divine justice and the awakening of the human conscience remain as hope. May his memory be eternal, and may those responsible for this crime face justice in this world or the next.
