Hey everyone, I’m back!
I took a short break from writing for Grumpy Combat Veteran (GCV) because I was a little behind on my schoolwork. But now, I’m here again, and I want to say—I love Uncle Will. He has helped my dad, family, and, most importantly, me.
When no one believed in me, my dad and Mr. Selber did. Uncle Will helped get my writing published when I was just starting out, and I will always be grateful for his support.
But today, I want to talk about my uncles in Qatar.
They are there, waiting for a chance to come to the U.S. But now, the U.S. government says they can’t go. These men worked alongside Mr. Selber and others like him in Afghanistan. They didn’t just save Afghan lives—they helped keep Americans safe. So, why aren’t they allowed to come here?
While they wait in Qatar, their kids miss home. One of the things they hated most in Afghanistan was going to the doctor whenever they got sick. If they had the flu, they dreaded the visit because the doctor would always give them injections. And honestly, who loves going to the doctor anyway?
But guess what? They asked their dad two days ago.
“Take us to Dr. Fazil Hadi.”
Yes, the same doctor they used to hate! Imagine missing your home so much that you long for even the things you once disliked. That’s how deep their homesickness is.
But here’s the worst part—these kids don’t even know the whole truth.
They have no future where they are. There was no pathway to the U.S. and no safe way back home. If they return to Afghanistan, the Taliban will kill them because of their family’s work with the U.S.
This isn’t just unfair—it’s cruel.
So, I need your help. Please share this post. Please advocate for the people who were left behind. Support my uncles and their families in their fight to come to the U.S.
They kept their promises to America. It’s time America keeps its promise to them.
Also, quick update! My sister Taiba has been working hard on www.hercraft.art and has added some fantastic new items to the website. If you love unique handmade crafts, check them out and support her work!

Aqsa, constant prayers from Texas for the Afghan people. It is horrific being separated from your family and being helpless to get them here. Will keep writing letters to our representatives to try to bring more attention to this unacceptable situation. Feels like so little but nevertheless I will persist.
Thanks for sharing this article and Taiba’s shop so we can help support in some way. Lovely, modest pieces. Ordered one for my mother’s birthday, I’m sure she will love. Will share her website with my network in Texas! 🙏🏻
What are some other ways we can help your Afghan uncles, brothers, cousins , friends in refugee areas away from Taliban revenge but not yet in the U.S. or other relative safe countries?
