A Letter to Kristi Noem from an Afghan Ally
Another Message from Hamid
Dear Secretary Noem,
My name is Hamid, and I am a former Afghan military serviceman and veteran. I proudly served for years alongside U.S. forces and NATO allies in our shared mission to fight terrorism and protect the values of freedom, security, and human dignity.
Today, I write to you with deep sorrow and urgent concern upon hearing of the decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghans. This decision is not merely a policy change but a matter of life and death for many of us. It turns away from the commitments and trust that bound us together on the battlefield.
The Taliban openly consider us their enemies. Former Afghan soldiers like myself are branded as “agents of foreign forces.” We face constant threats, targeted persecution, and complete exclusion from employment or social life in our own country. Many of our families are stranded in Afghanistan and Pakistan under dangerous and inhumane conditions, waiting desperately for a chance to escape.
Ending TPS denies us the last remaining lifeline toward safety and survival. As someone who risked everything in alliance with U.S. forces, I respectfully urge you to reconsider this decision. I am not just a refugee. I am a veteran, an ally, and a human being asking for dignity and protection.
The United States has always stood for justice, compassion, and the defense of the vulnerable. This is a moment to stand by those principles once again. Please, do not forget us. I, Hamid, a former soldier who once stood shoulder to shoulder with American troops, now ask you to stand with me in my time of need.
Sincerely,
Hamid
Former Afghan Military Serviceman Veteran and U.S. Ally
They made us many promises, more than I can remember. They never kept but one, they promised to take our land and they took it. Betrayal by the American government is nothing new, history is replete with examples.
